Thoughts for the day, +pretty. And food.

Fri Aug 24, 2007, 1:43 PM
I'm sending out my first batch of submissions to various businesses, starting with book publishers, this week. I have no idea if I'm ready or not (got some pretty bad feedback on the last picture. Look. I like getting critiques. I do. It helps me learn. It also feels like a root canal with no novacane to dull the pain. So if you're going to tell me I need to work on something, BE SPECIFIC. Even "her neck looks off" is more helpful than "You need to work on anatomy". WHAT anatomy? Where? It's like telling a cook-in-training "you need to work on how your food tastes." We KNOW we need to work on it. I just want to know what areas need life-support studying immediately, and which areas can just continue to improve at their usual, gradual rate.) But I don't really want to put this off for another year.

It's scary, and I expect that I'll either get a bad response or no response, but...well, I'm pretty obviously religious, so I'll just say it. God can't bless me if I'm not moving. Sending out art (even bad art) is better than sitting on my butt doing nothing.

BTW I ordered a few prints, mostly 'cause DA's prints are much better than anything my (non existant) printer can do. it's so NICE to see my art how I intended it. And I finally have something to count as a real, live business expense. Even if the rest of the world doesn't recognise being a freelance artist as attempting to run your own buisness, it really is exactly the same. You just get less respect and sympathy for it.

Pretty time:

And in a final note...you know you're bored and in desperate need of distraction when the thing that blows your depression away is a sandwich. It was a tomato-basil sandwich. But still...god, I need a hobby.

Or a social life. Either would work.

OOO...oooo o oo

Is that a hot guy I see?

YES IT IS!
<3

I dunno I'd criticize but it depends on the artist. Sometimes I get bit in the ass when I criticize an image an artist put a lot of hardwork on, or is low on confidence......or is so proud of it...or its a commission....I hate to break pride ..and get kicked in the ass

it stings

So I need to know if you are open to it for any image D:;;

Yep. They're good. :D I was introduced to them when I worked at a tea room (One of their tea-sandwiches, AKA food for women who don't really want to eat.) and really liked them. Didn't try making one myself until yesterday, though. But yeah. Good snack. Tomatoes, fresh basil and mayonasse. REAL mayo. Not Miracle Whip. That's what I tried the first time. It was nasty.

Well, I can't speak for other people (I've had people do the same thing for me, too) but I'd want to get my stuff ripped apart no matter what it is. It's the only way to learn. My problem is that it DOES hurt, so I want the hurt to be worth something. Vague generalities don't help. Specific areas do.

'Sides, like I've said elsewhere, I want to be a professional artist, which means I really need to get used to people giving me negative feedback. People around here are nice, partially because they want to get niceness back, and partially because a few popular kids are known to throw hissy-fits when they get critiqued. An employer probably won't be nice.

So yeah. You have blanket permission to take my art apart whenever you feel like it. :D

hmmm I'd suggest posting your stuff in conceptart.org XD they are tough ...and can be harsh but they actually tell you if you improved and are doing better, it's motivating

CGsociety is worse but I did not join because I was told they are more into 3D art than CG, so conceptart was better choice

but sure I'll give you my criticism, since you done me that favor :)

Well personally I like to cook the tomatoes with a variety of spices, put them on toasted bread and eat them but.. if it must be a sandwich I'll put some fresh mozzarella and pesto as well. Yummy stuff <3 And good luck! And on the last picture I think it wasn't your fault, more the model you were tracing over :p If you do more like 'Soft' and 'What Will They Call Her' I have no doubt you'll do more than fine!

Well, if I screw it up, it is my fault for not knowing enough anatomy to fix it when the reference is off. Which happens, even with photographs.

...I REALLY have to replace my anatomy book. I've been looking for it for a week now and can't seem to find the silly thing.

Ah, well...

And Tomato-Basil sandwiches are really good light eating. You can burn through whatever energy they give you really fast, but it's food.

Best of luck with your talents. And may God bless you and your work.

A tomato and basil sandwich sounds very tasty.
