There IS a story here. Maybe someday I'll even write it. However, I think it's just as approprete to let YOU see it for yourself. Isn't that what exploration's all about?
--------------------------------------------------------------

I NEVER thought I'd get this one done. Spent four days working on it, on and off. I wanted to get back into practice working with real colors, and I'd say I did. Defenately PROUD of this one.

Done entirly in Photoshop. The moon and planet were done using a few photoshop tricks, the ocean was cut and paste (reshaped, tooled with the smudge tool to look like water, and highlights added) Everything else is either painted in (including the stars) or touched up with a gradient. At a guess, twelve hours to do.

Photoshop+wacom graphire tablet.

Yeah, that was fun to do. I still don't know why I did it (every painting has some germ of inspiration at the beginning, but for the life of me, I can't remember what inspired this one.) but it was a blast.

Wow, she looks realy good, and the background, too.

I MAY (emphasis on MAY) wind up doing that story as my NaNo Novel this year. It's a choice between this and another idea. It depends on which one I like more by November.

Wow. Very Cool. Its so vivid. The colours, particularly of the alien in the foreground are stunning.

The twin moons look very cool, but they had me puzzled for a moment, until it finally clicked. They seem to "point" in different directions. By this I mean they seem to be lit from different sides, whereas a moon will always be lit from the same direction (i.e from the sunny side!) Its a minor detail, but one that attracts my attention as I hope to someday be a profesional astronomer!

Aside from that little detail, this piece is great. The detailing on the strata of the rocks, the rolling countryside and the island in the distance are phenomenal, and the light effects on the water are truly beautiful.

Thank you. I didn't know that about the moons...none of the "make planet" tutorials I read mentioned that. I'll remember that for the next piece.

Its not something that is commonly known. The thing is that planets are only visible by reflecting sunlight, so as only one side is lit, it will always have to be the side that points towards the sun, wherever that might be. Look our moon next time you see it and think where the sun is: in the evening, the light side will always be to the west, in the morning it will always be in the east. I thought I'd offer the explanation.

The explination's much appreciated. Like I said, I did not know that. At night, you don't get the sun for a reference, and during the day you never think about it. Thank you

Actually it was more of a combination of Asahel Frost from Saggitarious Whorl (Julian May) and my own feavered imagination. Might have some nightcrawler mixed in, but I'm not a big marvel fan...

Thanks for the complements. :D

Thanks!

As far as digital painting goes, all I can suggest is that if you want to do it, start doing it and let yourself improve as you go. If you showed me this picture five years ago and told me that I was the one who made it, I'd never have believed you because I was horrible at art. I didn't believe I could ever do it, and I almost didn't. I've spent at least an hour a day in Photoshop since I was seventeen, doing something.

BTW I took a look at your stuff. GREAT photography. :D

I love how her skin and the water seem to glow. If you added a little atmospheric haze to the farther objects in the background, it would be perfect. Beautiful work.

I like how you paint the mountain.. But the blue planet is too sharp edged.. A little blur/foggy would explain the distance better. Anyway, its a tough job to paint something like this!!
